Global Advisors program to launch in Fall of 2016

This fall it’s going to be a lot easier for Nova Scotia exporters to connect to local, national, and international business leaders, thanks to the ConnectNS Global Advisors Program.

The program, unveiled today at the annual Nova Scotia Export Achievement Awards, will offer Nova Scotia exporters access to Global Advisors in strategic markets and sectors of focus.

The Global Advisors are local, national, and international business leaders with expertise who all share a connection to Nova Scotia—whether expats, alumni, or friends of the province.

“To date, we have 80 Global Advisors on board for when we launch in the fall,” says Laurel Broten, President & CEO of NSBI. “And while that’s a great network, it’s just the start. We’re really hoping that our current Global Advisors, and members of the business community at large will bring forward even more names that we can recruit to be part of this program.”

Notable Global Advisors include the Canadian Ambassador to Switzerland, Cape Breton native Jennifer MacIntyre, as well Bill Bannerman, the Hollywood producer behind the Twilight Saga film series who was born and raised in Dartmouth.

The ConnectNS Global Advisor program was inspired by the GlobalScot program in Scotland as well as the Kea program in New Zealand, both of which have leveraged the connections of their expats and alumni for measurable economic growth.

“The economic impact of exporting is undisputable,” says Broten. “But if we want to continue to grow, thrive, and prosper as a province, it’s important that we leverage one of our most valuable natural resources—our people.”

For Global Advisors, participating is as easy as having enough time in the day for a simple cup of coffee—either in person, by phone, or virtually.
