Can you explain what the Nova Scotia Film and Television Production Incentive Fund is?
The Fund is administered and managed by Nova Scotia Business Inc. It is a financial incentive based on a Nova Scotia spend model that is designed to stimulate and support the production of film and television projects in Nova Scotia while offering economic value to key creative positions including Nova Scotia resident directors, writers, and principal performers.
Who is eligible for the fund?
To be eligible, applicants must:
- be engaged primarily in the film and television production business;
- demonstrate that their main activity is the creation of film/video productions available for public viewing;
- have a permanent establishment in Nova Scotia; and
- be incorporated in Nova Scotia under the Companies Act or continued as a Nova Scotia company through a Certificate of Continuance and be in good standing with the Registry of Joint Stock Companies
What is the approval process?
In order to be considered for funding, a complete application submission must be received by Nova Scotia Business Inc. with all required accompanying documentation and supplementary information. Complete submissions are reviewed and administered for eligibility by Nova Scotia Business Inc.
What is the turnaround time for an application to be approved?
Applications that are deemed complete will be handled on a first-in, first-out basis for production funding. NSBI is committed to processing them in a timely and efficient manner. At any point, an applicant may contact us to inquire on process status.
What do the eligible expenses include?
Eligible costs include all expenditures where the goods or services are purchased from a Nova Scotia–based supplier. The supplier is required to have a permanent physical establishment within the province and all goods and services must be leased, used, provided, or consumed in Nova Scotia.
Is there a cap or can the fund run out?
The maximum funding from the Fund payable to any project is $4 million. The province has committed $10 million for this year.
