Nova Scotia Community College’s Applied Energy Research (AER) group develops and tests sustainable energy alternatives with extensive experience in solar energy technologies, monitoring devices and microgrids. AER’s main research lab is home to a microgrid that can be disconnected from the grid, consequently running on batteries and delivering valuable insights to industry.

As the demand for renewable energy sources increases, so does the need for advanced energy storage solutions. Nova Scotia’s battery R&D sector is positioned to meet this demand, with ongoing research focused on developing new materials, improving battery and supercapacitor performance, and reducing costs.
