Acadia alumnus hits reverse down the 401

Monday, May 30, 2016

Meet Sean Pindar. Like many Nova Scotia students, Sean headed straight down the 401 highway to Toronto after graduation. Now with a wife and two young kids later, he's hitting reverse.

Tie to Nova Scotia:
Met his wife, Alana, at Acadia University. Alana is from Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia.

Date of move to Nova Scotia:
June 10, 2016

What prompted your decision to move back to Nova Scotia?
Since my wife and I met, we always talked about life in Halifax. The culture, history, and lifestyle were, and still are, very appealing to us. Now with two young kids under 4 we feel Halifax, and Nova Scotia in general, is the ideal environment to raise our children.

What will you and your wife be doing professionally?
Alana is this year’s recipient of the Webster Fellowship from the University of Guelph. She will continue her research on pollinators from Nova Scotia as the fellowship is not restrictive to location. I have purchased a financial planning practice, Evangeline Wealth, and will work alongside my uncles, Norm and Doug Jagger, who are also financial planners.

What’s the greatest asset Nova Scotia can offer your new industry?
Environment Canada and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans are recruiting and engaging high level research scientists in Nova Scotia, which is very interesting for Alana’s prospects. In some cases, a Post Doctoral Fellowship is awarded, and based on the results or strength of the research done, a full time senior scientist position is offered.

As for myself, Evangeline Wealth has formed a strategic partnership with Industrial Alliance (Investia) allowing Evangeline Wealth to leverage our strong local brand recognition while benefiting from the financial support of the fourth largest insurance company in Canada, which is something our clients are feeling the impact of already, not even year into our partnership.

What advice would you give people looking to move back home?
Reach out!!! Reach out to friends, family, and colleagues. The “down home” way of life really comes through when you begin to network. Whether it was over lunch or a cup of tea, people were willing to extend a helping hand. Furthermore, if you haven’t already done so, be sure to get involved with ConnectNS. I had the chance to attend a couple of ConnectNS events held in Toronto and it was a fantastic way of learning about all the great things happening across Nova Scotia’s business landscape. Be willing to put the work in, and the Nova Scotians will guide you home!
