Business Growth Executive

The Business Growth team assists with building capacity to support growth and productivity of Nova Scotia’s start-ups and small to medium-sized export-oriented businesses. 

The Business Growth Executive manages the development and delivery of programs that support research commercialization and help businesses leverage Nova Scotia’s research expertise to increase productivity and innovation. Exhibiting agile project planning, program management, and teambuilding skills, the Business Growth Executive leads the overall management of the Productivity and Innovation Voucher Program (PIVP) and the Early-Stage Commercialization Fund (ESCF) program as well as the relationships with participating academic and affiliated research institutions.  

In this role, the successful candidate will:

  • Manage the PIVP and ESCF programs, including liaising with client applicants (businesses and researchers), post-secondary industry engagement offices, healthcare research and innovation offices, other research institutions, and teams across Invest Nova Scotia.
    • Implements an evaluation framework for the programs, continually improves program processes, recommends change, brings forward new ideas, and supports the ideas of others.
    • Creates, implements, and assesses an evidence-based, annual recruitment plan to grow the number and quality of applications in alignment with Invest Nova Scotia’s strategic objectives.
    • Leads the client application process, including assessment of all program applications and communicating results to applicants.
    • Represents the programs to internal and external stakeholders and collaborates with Invest Nova Scotia’s marketing team to develop content and campaigns to support the programs.
    • In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Business Growth, monitors approved PIVP and ESCF budgets to ensure prudent financial management, making recommendations to reallocate funding where appropriate.

Education/Professional Experience: 

  • The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in business with a minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in the private and/or public sector in a client-partner engagement, project planning, business advisory or related role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Experienced in working in or with academia, research commercialization or industry engagement
  • Knowledge of technology start-ups or related sectors, venture capital and business evaluation is desirable
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with teammates and key business stakeholders
  • Collaborative with effective teambuilding skills
  • Exercises good judgement and diplomacy
