Invest Nova Scotia’s targeted initiatives are designed to fill funding gaps in Nova Scotia’s start-up ecosystem. These investments are focused on leveraging private angel investment and encouraging funds with alternative models to promote regional investment, diversity and inclusive growth throughout Nova Scotia.
Targeted initiatives goals
- Strengthen Nova Scotia’s private capital ecosystem
- Expand and diversify access to capital for high-growth start-ups
Angel capital activation
Angel-led Funds
Invest Nova Scotia’s Activating Capital initiative is focused on facilitating the creation of local angel investment groups in regions across Nova Scotia, outside Halifax. The goal is to enable more local capital to be invested in innovative companies across the province and in underserved communities. Through strengthening angel investor networks, we will continue to build momentum in Nova Scotia’s investment ecosystem which will contribute to local economic growth. These local angel funds not only provide capital to traditionally underserved areas, but they also provide mentorship, guidance, expertise and other supports that provide a significant advantage to local start-ups.
Co-investments
Invest Nova Scotia has also begun co-investing with established groups actively investing in high-growth start-ups. The first initiative of this kind is a pilot project with Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) Atlantic in which Invest Nova Scotia co-invests with CDL mentors and angel investors.
