When 10 Nova Scotia start-ups attended Web Summit Vancouver this spring, they arrived with ambitious goals – to meet investors, validate their technologies, connect with customers, and explore new markets.
They returned with much more
Supported by Invest Nova Scotia, the delegation joined thousands of founders, investors, and technology leaders from around the world at one of the industry's premier global events. Over four days, the companies showcased their innovations, pitched to international audiences and built relationships that continue to generate momentum weeks after the event.
For several companies, those conversations are already turning into meaningful business opportunities.
A launchpad for global growth
For Halifax-based Mettara AI, the impact of Web Summit has been immediate.
This was probably the highest ROI thing we have ever done as a company, and that is not an exaggeration," said Yash Mehta, Founder of Mettara AI. "We are still barely keeping up with the demand and engagement we received. The opportunities we've created have the potential to be life changing for our company."
Mettara AI, which helps B2B SaaS companies simplify complex software experiences using artificial intelligence, connected with prospective customers and strategic partners from around the world during the event.
One of those connections has already led to a significant business opportunity. After meeting Bruska ERP at Web Summit, Mettara AI signed a letter of engagement with the Middle East-based enterprise software company just two days later. Bruska ERP, which offers more than 2,500 features and is expanding its operations into North America through Ontario, was looking for exactly the type of AI-powered user experience capabilities Mettara AI provides. The partnership is expected to support Bruska ERP’s North American expansion while extending Mettara AI’s own international footprint.
The company's experience highlights exactly what trade missions like Web Summit are designed to achieve: opening doors that would otherwise take months, or even years, to access.
The support from Invest Nova Scotia, both before and during the event, made a tremendous difference," Mehta added. "We are so incredibly grateful to have been part of this opportunity."

Momentum that continues beyond the event
The impact of Web Summit doesn't end when the exhibition floor closes.
One of the participating companies, Floqer, recently announced it has closed a $2M pre-seed funding round, providing fresh capital to accelerate development of its AI-powered go-to-market automation platform.
The investment was led by Toronto-based N49P and included Halifax's Tidal Venture Partners, and San Francisco-based F7 Ventures.
Since launching less than two years ago, Floqer has achieved impressive growth, surpassing $1M in annual recurring revenue while supporting enterprise customers including Perplexity, AngelList, and Wise. The company plans to use the funding to expand development of its autonomous customer knowledge platform, helping organizations identify sales opportunities faster through AI-powered insights. The company has built an AI-native customer knowledge system that unifies data enrichment and orchestration in one place, consolidating the patchwork of CRMs, spreadsheets and point tools like Clay or CommonRoom that go-to-market teams stitch together today.
The announcement underscores the calibre of companies representing Nova Scotia on the global stage and the momentum that can follow international exposure.
Web Summit was an immense opportunity for Floqer. We not only closed enterprise contracts at the event; but also built meaningful partnerships with companies like Microsoft and Remitly," said Zaaheda Islam, CTO & Co-founder at Floqer. "Invest Nova Scotia went above and beyond to ensure our success, and we couldn't have done it without their support."
Investing in companies with global ambition
Nova Scotia's innovation ecosystem continues to produce companies solving real-world challenges across artificial intelligence, SaaS, ocean technology, digital platforms, sport science, and other high-growth sectors.
Trade missions like Web Summit Vancouver help accelerate that growth by connecting founders directly with investors, customers, partners, and industry leaders from around the world.
Whether it's validating a product, securing new customers, attracting investment, or building strategic partnerships, these global events provide opportunities that can significantly accelerate a company's growth trajectory.
For Invest Nova Scotia, supporting companies at events like Web Summit is about more than exhibiting at a conference—it's about helping innovative businesses scale internationally and strengthening Nova Scotia's reputation as a hub for high-growth technology companies.
As the experiences of Mettara AI and Floqer demonstrate, the connections made during a few days at Web Summit can continue creating value long after the event concludes.
