There was a lot of talk about large-scale investment at the Canada Investment Summit. But for me, one of the biggest takeaways was just how much opportunity is already sitting here in Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia arrived at the Summit with 20 investment-ready projects spanning energy, infrastructure, mining and more, representing billions of dollars in potential investment across the province.
As Director of Mining, Foresty and Green Construction with Invest Nova Scotia’s Investment Attraction team, I was especially excited to be part of conversations around the province’s mining opportunities and the role they can play in building a stronger, more diversified economy.
Mining is part of a much bigger story. The global demand for critical minerals is creating new opportunities for jurisdictions with the resources, infrastructure and expertise to develop them.
Our mining projects are part of a broader investment pipeline that includes energy, ports, transportation, industrial development and other infrastructure. Together, these opportunities create the potential to build new supply chains, connect resources to global markets and attract investment into communities across the province.
And importantly, most of these projects are in rural Nova Scotia.
That means the impact of investment can extend well beyond the project itself, supporting local businesses, creating jobs, strengthening infrastructure and contributing to long-term growth in communities that will feel those benefits for years to come.
Connecting global opportunities to Nova Scotia
The Summit also provided something that is difficult to replicate anywhere else: the opportunity to have meaningful discussions with some of the world’s leading investment firms and sovereign wealth funds.
These are investors with the scale and experience to help move major projects forward.
Being in those conversations reinforced something I see every day in my role: Nova Scotia has a story worth telling.
The Canada Investment Summit was part of a broader federal effort to catalyse $1 trillion in investment in Canada over the next five years. Nova Scotia’s participation put our projects directly in front of global capital at a time when investors are looking for opportunities to build, grow and diversify.
For me, that is what made the Summit so valuable. It was about starting the conversations that can turn investment opportunities into projects, projects into economic activity, and economic activity into long-term growth and expansion.
The opportunity ahead
We have an opportunity right now to build on Nova Scotia’s strengths, our resource development tied to world-class environmental safeguards, , our people, our infrastructure, our access to markets and our ability to connect global companies with opportunities here.
For the mining sector, in particular, that means continuing to build awareness of what Nova Scotia has to offer and connecting the right projects with the right investment partners.
The conversations started in Toronto are only the beginning. And I’m excited to keep bringing Nova Scotia’s investment story to the world.
