A Halifax-based tech start-up's innovation in the immigration landscape created a lawyer-designed, AI-powered platform built to streamline visa applications, provide cost competitiveness, and drastically reduce refusal rates.
ImmigrateAI Global is the brainchild of founder and CEO, Max Medyk. Medyk, who has navigated immigration systems in Ukraine, the US, New Zealand, and now Canada, has seen the challenges – and therefore opportunities – up close.
“Only a small fraction of applicants use lawyers or consultants,” he explains. “Not because they don’t want help, but because it's either unaffordable or they don’t realize how risky it is to go it alone.”
He started in 2020 through content creation. With over 400,000 followers across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, Medyk built a platform explaining complex policies and procedures for newcomers.
“There’s a disconnect between the support people need and what’s realistically available to them. That’s where we saw an opportunity to bring in AI.”
Since its launch as ImmigrateAI Global in 2024, the company has grown rapidly, with over 30,000 users across 140 countries.
“Instead of paying $2,000 for a lawyer, an immigrant can pay $100 for this AI software. All of a sudden, this help becomes accessible to everybody.”
One compelling example came from a client in Mexico. After two failed student visa applications – one through a consultant and one solo – the applicant succeeded on their third attempt using ImmigrateAI Global for just $100. “Ten times less than what they paid the first time,” Medyk notes.
ImmigrateAI Global’s software helps users prepare visa applications by checking their profiles against immigration regulations, flagging potential red flags, and generating a customized list of supporting documents. It’s not just a form-filler, Medyk emphasizes – it’s a tool designed to help users avoid mistakes that could lead to rejection.
This innovation is resonating particularly strongly in the post-secondary education sector.
“Universities are losing out on millions each year because of student visa refusals.”
Medyk recently presented at Web Summit Vancouver, where ImmigrateAI Global signed two significant memoranda of understanding (MOUs).
The first agreement was with Quebec-based education platform CanApply, marking a strategic step forward in expanding support for international student visa applications.

The second MOU was signed with Ritika Saraswat, CEO of Re-Defined – a career success platform serving over 50,000 international students and immigrants. This new partnership will bring ImmigrateAI’s legal tech AI tools to Re-Defined’s community, helping more students access affordable and reliable immigration support at scale.
“We’re excited to see how we can make legal help accessible to every international student,” said Saraswat at the signing.
ImmigrateAI Global is also developing new tools. On June 25, the company plans to launch PR Compass, a platform geared toward immigrants already in Canada – particularly those in healthcare, construction, and other high-demand sectors – who are navigating the path to permanent residency.
“If you’re a nurse, your time is better spent caring for patients,” Medyk says. “We’ll take care of the rest.”
Partnerships with provincial governments, educational institutions, and other private companies are a key part of ImmigrateAI Global’s strategy moving forward. And while the company is headquartered in Halifax, Medyk says he's often asked why he hasn’t moved to Toronto or Vancouver.
"Invest Nova Scotia played a huge role in keeping us here. They helped us grow without having to relocate."
That support included assistance through the Invest Nova Scotia Accelerate Program, which helped launch their second version of the platform. “Without that, we wouldn’t be working with post-secondary schools at the scale we are now,” Medyk says.
For Medyk, the focus is simple: “We’re here to build tools that actually work – for the people who need them most.”
