As the global health sector evolves, one thing is certain: the digital transformation of healthcare isn’t slowing down, it’s accelerating. Around the world, health systems are adopting technologies that enhance patient care, expand access, and improve efficiency.

Having been born in Mexico and living in Nova Scotia for over 27 years, I’ve seen how both regions share a strong drive to innovate and improve healthcare access through technology. I’ve also learned that building meaningful local relationships is key to growing in these types of markets. This personal connection makes me proud to see Atlantic Canadian companies explore Mexico’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.

Mexico holds a unique position in this global transformation—a country where innovation is thriving and opportunities abound. Through the new Market Exploration Program (MEP) Mexico, we’re helping Atlantic Canadian digital health companies take the first steps into this fast-growing market. The program helps participants validate their solutions, gain local insights, and build the right connections within Mexico’s healthcare ecosystem.

MEP Mexico provides a strategic, low-barrier pathway for export-ready companies to explore one of the world’s most dynamic healthcare markets. By combining expert guidance, market intelligence, and in-market connections, the program helps participants navigate regulatory, cultural, and commercial considerations, positioning them for sustainable global growth.

Mexico represents a tremendous opportunity for digital health innovation. With a growing emphasis on preventative care and strong interest in wellness technology, it’s an ideal market for Wellnify.ai’s mission to make holistic health accessible to everyone. We’re excited to explore new partnerships that help bring our gamified wellness platform to communities and corporations across Mexico. — the Team at Wellnify.ai

Why Mexico? A market ripe for innovation

Mexico’s healthcare system is forecasting the most significant digital transformation in the Americas. The country’s digital health market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.5% between 2021 and 2026.

This rapid growth is fuelled by increasing healthcare investment, a surge in data-driven technologies, and strong government support for digital health. In 2022, Mexico’s Ministry of Health boosted funding for digital health initiatives by 25%, accelerating the adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) across the public sector. The following year, new regulations established national standards for data privacy and interoperability, unlocking further investment and modernization.

The result? A market full of opportunity for innovative digital health solutions, especially in areas such as:

  • Telemedicine, extending access to care across rural regions.
  • AI and analytics platforms that improve diagnostics and operational efficiency.
  • Mobile health and wellness applications that empower individuals to manage their own health.
  • Software as a Medical Device (SaaMD), a newly regulated and rapidly expanding area in Mexico.

Mexico represents a strategic next step, not only as a market where HealthEMe's unique IP can support local health-care needs, but as a gateway to serving clients across Central and South America. — Ashwin Kutty, President of HealthEMe

Strengthening Canada–Mexico collaboration

The timing for this program couldn’t be better. Canada and Mexico share a deep, multifaceted relationship built on trade, innovation, and shared priorities in sustainable development and technology.

With Mexico ranking as Canada’s third-largest trading partner and bilateral trade reaching nearly $50 billion in 2023, the ties between our nations continue to strengthen. As Mexico advances toward its goal of fully digitizing its health regulatory system by 2030, demand is rising for international collaboration, and for Canadian expertise in data security, interoperability, and patient-centred design.

Through MEP Mexico, we’re helping Atlantic Canadian companies take their first steps into this vibrant ecosystem, while contributing to a bilateral partnership grounded in innovation and impact.

A strategic pathway for export growth

Delivered in partnership with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and the governments of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador, MEP Mexico provides a practical, low-barrier approach for export-ready companies.

Participants gain:

  • A deep understanding of Mexico’s regulatory and cultural landscape.
  • Insight into market opportunities and buyer expectations.
  • Guidance on positioning their technologies for local adoption and success.

A gateway to global growth

Programs such as MEP Mexico are more than just market entry. They empower Atlantic Canadian innovators to think globally, act strategically, and grow sustainably.

Mexico is ready for innovation. Atlantic Canada is ready to deliver. Together, we can unlock new markets, forge lasting partnerships, and build the future of digital health on a global stage.

This project is supported by the Atlantic Trade and Investment Growth Strategy, a partnership between the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic provincial governments. The Atlantic Trade and Investment Growth Strategy is a collaborative, pan-Atlantic approach which aims to help Atlantic businesses begin exporting, increase their export sales, expand to new markets, and create global partnerships. The strategy was developed jointly by the provincial governments of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland & Labrador, and the Government of Canada.
