Air force executive got his flying start in Nova Scotia

Meet ConnectNS network member Don McClure, Vice President, Business Development, Lockheed Martin Canada in Ottawa, Ontario.



What’s your tie to Nova Scotia?
I have so many ties to Nova Scotia. I started my Air Force career as a young Air Navigator on 404 Squadron flying the Argus aircraft on Anti-Submarine missions from Greenwood. On subsequent postings, I served at the Acoustic Data Analysis Centre (ADAC) in Halifax and at the Maritime Proving and Evaluation Unit (MP&EU), 405 Squadron and the Aurora Software Development Unit (MP&EU) all at Greenwood. While at Greenwood I met my wife Debbie (nee Glydon) from the town of Kingston who at the time was a student at Acadia. Both our daughter Joy and our son Mike were born in Berwick. Mike and Debbie are both graduates of Acadia University. In my civilian career, I have worked for MDA, xwave and now Lockheed Martin Canada all with significant operations in Nova Scotia.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear “Nova Scotia”?

I think of the great people I have met and worked with who are from Nova Scotia.

What do you love most about doing what you do professionally?

I love the challenge involved in the capture of large Canadian Defence procurement programs. Each has different challenges and I get the chance to get to know new and interesting customers.

What’s the best lesson you ever learned?

Homo sapiens non urinat in ventum.

What’s the greatest asset Nova Scotia can offer your industry?

Nova Scotia offers a dedicated and very well educated technical workforce many of whom have direct experience with the Canadian Armed Forces.

What do you miss most about Nova Scotia?

I miss those kitchen parties!
