Invest Nova Scotia has approved a business development incentive, in the form of an innovation rebate, for Mansteel Rebar Ltd. in Amherst, Cumberland County.

Mansteel Rebar Ltd. specializes in engineering, fabrication, and installation of reinforcing steel (rebar), and services clients throughout Atlantic Canada. The company established a new 15,000-square-foot facility in Amherst in 2025 and is expanding this facility to undertake the second part of its growth.
This second phase will grow the Amherst facility to meet increasing demand for reinforced steel in Nova Scotia. The project includes expanding the plant, improving workflow, and adding high-capacity equipment. A key upgrade is an automated shear line, which will increase cutting speed, precision, and overall production capacity, fully integrated with the company’s digital systems. Additional overhead cranes will further improve material handling and support higher output.

This investment is expected to help the company supply more of Nova Scotia’s rebar demand, increase monthly production by about 50 per cent, improve efficiency, reduce material waste by roughly 20 per cent, and lower transportation-related emissions.

The company is eligible to earn a maximum innovation rebate of $259,293 in completion of its project, based on eligible capital spending of $1,037,171. To be considered for an innovation rebate, a company’s total project costs must be between $350,000 and $15 million. An approved rebate is up to 25 per cent against eligible project costs.

Innovation rebate agreements spur and support capital investments that help companies operating in Nova Scotia improve productivity, adopt new technologies, and expand their capacity to compete and grow.
