Nova Sustainable Fuels is a Halifax-based clean energy developer advancing one of North America's most ambitious sustainable fuel projects. The company is developing the Nova Scotia Renewable Energy Park, an integrated renewable energy and sustainable fuel production platform on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore that will produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable methanol for domestic and international markets.
Backed by Octopus Energy Generation, a global renewable energy investor with extensive experience in wind, solar, and energy transition infrastructure, Nova Sustainable Fuels combines institutional financing capabilities with deep expertise in project development, renewable energy generation, environmental permitting, and industrial operations. Since launching the project in 2022, the company has secured key development milestones, including site control, renewable energy development rights, biomass supply agreements, environmental approvals, engineering studies, and commercial offtake agreements.
Located in Goldboro, Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Renewable Energy Park is a vertically integrated clean fuels development designed to produce approximately 165,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel annually, including 100,000 tonnes of eSAF and 65,000 tonnes of advanced bioSAF. The facility will also produce renewable methanol, creating additional commercial opportunities and revenue streams.
The project combines multiple technologies across the clean energy value chain, including renewable electricity generation, green hydrogen production through electrolysis, sustainable biomass gasification, and advanced fuel synthesis. When operational, the facility is expected to reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by more than 85% compared with conventional jet fuel, while serving growing demand from the aviation and marine transportation sectors.
Dedicated renewable generation assets are planned to include approximately 800 MW of wind power and 300 MW of solar capacity, supported by project-owned transmission infrastructure and deep-water export facilities at Goldboro.
