Company Overview

MTC Mass Timber Company is developing a C$200 million next-generation mass timber manufacturing facility in East Hants, Nova Scotia, creating one of Canada's most significant advanced manufacturing and value-added forestry investments. The project will produce both glulam and cross-laminated timber (CLT) products, supporting the rapidly growing demand for sustainable building materials across Canada and the northeastern United States.

Founded in 2020, MTC combines majority Indigenous ownership through Indigenous Forestry Partners, representing eight Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq communities, with the expertise of two long-established Nova Scotia sawmills, Elmsdale Lumber and Ledwidge Lumber. Together, they provide a fully integrated forest-to-frame supply chain anchored by 43 million board feet of annual lumber supply and nearly 190 years of combined operating experience.

Supported by a leadership team with experience delivering more than 100 mass timber projects across North America, MTC is positioned to become a key supplier to a rapidly expanding market for sustainable, low-carbon construction materials.

Project Overview

The MTC facility is a fully integrated advanced manufacturing operation spanning approximately 168,000 square feet of production space and 8,000 square feet of office space on a company-owned 60-acre industrial site in East Hants, Nova Scotia. The facility will manufacture engineered wood products that can generate five to ten times the value of traditional commodity lumber while supporting the transition to low-carbon building construction.

The project is shovel-ready, with land purchased and cleared, engineering completed, and civil construction packages ready for tender. Groundbreaking is scheduled for Q3 2026, with a 24-month construction and commissioning schedule targeting operations in 2028. Approximately 65% of project costs are already fixed through supplier contracts, significantly reducing construction risk.

Once operational, the facility is expected to generate approximately $153 million in annual revenue, $68 million in EBITDA, and sequester approximately 75,000 tonnes of CO₂e annually through mass timber products used in long-life buildings.
