Job Opportunity: Senior Sector Strategist (Permanent)
Reporting to the Director of Strategy and Research, the Senior Sector Strategist helps shape and lead the strategies that drive growth in our priority sectors. We rely on this role to guide the research and insights that fuel Invest Nova Scotia’s business development efforts. As the go-to person for their sector(s), the Senior Sector Strategist stays on top of trends, opportunities, and developments—both here at home and around the world. They help us spot new opportunities for investment and partnership, prioritize where to focus our efforts, and work with others across the organization to bring those opportunities to life. They also take a leadership role within the Strategy & Research team, sharing their knowledge and mentoring others along the way.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you’ll turn insight into action by leading strategies that strengthen Nova Scotia’s key sectors and support sustainable growth. You’ll analyze markets and trends, translate insights into recommendations for senior leadership, and help attract investment through strong value propositions and engagement with clients, industry, and partners. Collaboration is central to the role. You’ll build relationships with industry, government, and ecosystem partners, contribute to improving our programs and processes, mentor colleagues, and represent Invest Nova Scotia at conferences, missions, and key events.
What We’re Looking For
- A bachelor’s degree and at least ten years of experience in sector, business development, or strategy roles in the private or public sector. A master’s degree is an asset, and an equivalent combination of a master’s plus six years’ experience may also be considered.
- Knowledge and experience in the natural resource and energy sectors is an asset.
- Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn complex data and stakeholder input into actionable recommendations.
- Clear communicator who collaborates naturally and builds strong relationships across teams and with external partners.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines efficiently.
- Comfortable leading cross-functional groups and motivating colleagues when needed.
- Creative thinker with sound judgement, always looking for innovative ways to grow business and export opportunities.
- Awareness of national and global trends that influence business, trade, and strategy.
- Familiarity with data visualization and design tools is a plus.
- Must hold a valid Canadian passport with no travel restrictions.
