Job Opportunity: Managing Director, Investment Attraction - Digital Economy/AI/Fintech (Permanent)

Reporting to the Vice President, Investment Attraction, the Managing Director, Investment Attraction – Digital Economy/AI/Fintech will lead Nova Scotia’s efforts to attract global investment in the digital economy, AI, and financial technology sectors. This role focuses on building strong relationships, securing major investment opportunities, and helping position Nova Scotia as a competitive place to grow and invest. As a senior leader and ambassador for the province, you’ll work with business leaders, investors, and partners to support economic growth and job creation across Nova Scotia. 

What You’ll Do

You’ll lead investment attraction efforts for the digital economy, AI, and financial technology sectors by building relationships with global companies, identifying new opportunities, and supporting major investment projects from early discussions through to implementation. You’ll represent Nova Scotia at industry events, meet with investors and business leaders, host site visits, and work closely with government, industry, and regional partners to support sector growth. You’ll also mentor and support an Investment Attraction Executive as part of the team’s ongoing development and success.
You’ll provide strategic advice and recommendations to support investment decisions and broader economic development priorities.

What We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in Business, Economics, International Trade, or a related field, along with at least ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in the Digital Economy/AI/Fintech sector in investment attraction, corporate strategy, economic development, or global business development.

Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree.

You also bring:

  • A strong track record in complex business development, executive-level negotiations, and securing long-term strategic partnerships. 
  • Proven success leading complex investment or business development opportunities involving multiple stakeholders. 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with confidence engaging C-suite executives and senior decision-makers. 
  • Strategic insight into the Digital Economy/AI/Fintech landscape, global market dynamics, and Nova Scotia’s competitive position. 
  • Experience developing strategies that support organizational and provincial economic priorities 
  • Experience working collaboratively across government, industry, academia, and international trade networks. 
  • Executive presence, sound judgment, initiative, and a high level of accountability. 
  • Experience leading and mentoring high-performing teams.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and relationship management tools and practices.

Additional Qualifications

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid Canadian passport with no travel restrictions 
  • Must be available for frequent local and international travel, including outside normal business hours
