Job Opportunity: IT Support Specialist (Permanent)
Reporting to the Senior Manager, IT Services, the IT Support Specialist plays a key role in delivering and improving IT services across the organization. The role provides direct support to staff by managing and resolving IT tickets, while also addressing more complex issues, maintaining systems, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you’ll be the first point of contact for IT support, managing service requests, resolving or escalating issues, and keeping users informed while maintaining accurate ticket and asset records. You’ll support employees and incubation clients, assist with onboarding, and help maintain our IT infrastructure across security, telephony, on‑premises systems, and cloud platforms. You’ll administer and troubleshoot Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Entra, Active Directory, and related device and security management technologies, while supporting equipment setup, mobility plans, endpoint management, and system health. You’ll contribute to technology upgrades, testing, training, governance, and change management activities, helping the organization adopt new features and improve service quality. You’ll also assist with office moves, equipment disposal, after‑hours maintenance when required, and collaborate with business units, vendors, and project teams to ensure technology solutions meet evolving organizational needs.
What We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in information technology or computer science and have four (4) years of experience working in a corporate service desk environment.
You also bring:
- Experience with platform and network configurations, including Microsoft, PowerShell, Windows, MacOS, iOS, Azure, Active Directory, Salesforce, Drupal, Windows Server, Hyper‑V, and cloud‑based VMs and applications
- Strong knowledge of firewalls, switches, and mail delivery gateways
- Familiarity with ITIL service management practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including troubleshooting complex issues and identifying practical solutions
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail and organization
- Professional, patient, and composed under pressure, with a customer-focused mindset
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, collaborate with others, and follow through on tasks and tickets
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with evolving technologies

Classification: This is a bargaining unit position with an Invest Nova Scotia INS 5 rate of pay: $65,406-$79,507 based on the March 31, 2024, collective agreement rates. Preference will be given to qualified Invest Nova Scotia NSGEU bargaining unit candidates.
