Job Opportunity: Investment Associate (Permanent)

The Investment Associate is an integral member of the Venture Capital Team and is involved in actively seeking and evaluating seed and early-stage investment opportunities that offer the best potential for commercial success and financial sustainability. In addition, this role works closely with senior members of the investment team in executing transactions and managing portfolio companies.

What You’ll Do

As an Investment Associate, you’ll play a key role on our Venture Capital Team, identifying and evaluating early-stage companies with strong potential for commercial success. You’ll perform due diligence for potential investments, manage portfolio relationships, and work with founders and management teams as they navigate growth, scale, and market entry.

This role is well suited to someone who understands how early-stage companies are built, whether through venture capital, startup operations, innovation-focused roles, or close work with founders and entrepreneurial teams—and who can balance strong analysis with practical, relationship-driven judgment.

What We’re Looking For

  • The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, and or business, along with at least five (5) years of business or entrepreneurial experience.
  • Experience in dual-use/defence, cleantech and energy, or critical minerals considered an asset
  • Graduate degree considered an asset.
  • CFA or similar designation considered an asset.

You also bring:

  • Strong analytical, research, and financial analysis skills, with the ability to assess investment opportunities and support decision-making
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Solid understanding of venture capital, investing, and the startup ecosystem, including small business and entrepreneurship dynamics
  • Well-developed communication skills, with the confidence to build relationships and credibility with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across teams and functions
  • Hands-on experience with due diligence, market analysis, financial modeling, and evaluating investment opportunities (venture capital or startup experience considered an asset)
  • Working knowledge of contracts, regulatory considerations, and investment processes, with familiarity with CRM systems

What We Offer

We offer a people-focused rewards package designed to support your wellbeing and work/life balance. Our defined benefit pension plan, robust Blue Cross health and dental coverage, and Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) provide comprehensive support for you and your family. You’ll also have access to professional development opportunities, mentorship, and the chance to work with innovative, emerging companies in Nova Scotia. All to help you build a fulfilling career while maintaining a balanced life.
