All the expertise on land, air, and sea!

Thursday, September 4, 2014

In 1909, over the beautiful waters of Baddeck Bay in Cape Breton, the `Silver Dart` marked the first ever Canadian flight. From that point on, the world has been turning to Nova Scotia for aerospace solutions. Home to two air bases, the province’s aerospace industry boasts keen insights in developing innovative products and services for companies in the commercial, military and aerospace sectors.

Nova Scotia has always had a close connection to the sea and our, rich marine and naval history is rooted in the military. Home to over 40% of all of Canada’s military assets, an impressive and diverse group of companies call Nova Scotia home. But that’s only part of the reason we can boast expertise in the defence, naval, and aerospace sectors.

Home to the Canadian Navy’s Atlantic fleet and the closest major port to Europe, the province supports a robust marine research and technology sector leading in fields such as acoustic hull design, system electronics, sonar technologies and computer-aided manufacturing.

“The Aerospace and Defence industry in Atlantic Canada is a tightly clustered group of small and medium enterprises representing a billion dollars annually and these companies typically support and receive work from the larger tier one companies such as Lockheed Martin. “ says Harvey Doane, Director, Defence, Security & Aerospace with Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI).

Defence, security & aerospace are among Nova Scotia's fastest growing industries. With 65 boat building yards around the province and 26 regional ports with working waterfronts, Nova Scotia has a dynamic cluster of defence and security companies that deliver innovative solutions to Canadian and global markets.
