Halifax is emerging as a key location for the development of software solutions for ResMed’s Healthcare Informatics division; a global team of technology professionals tasked with designing, building and supporting software for patients and healthcare providers. These solutions complement ResMed’s medical devices by enabling advanced features and capabilities across the spectrum of activities required to diagnose and treat patients.
ResMed’s Michelle Lemieux answered a few questions to share some insight about the company, and its growth plans for Nova Scotia:
Q. Who/what is ResMed?
A. ResMed develops, manufactures and distributes medical equipment for the diagnosis, treatment and management of sleep apnea and other respiratory conditions.
With more than 4,000 employees and a presence in over 100 countries, the company has been pioneering new and innovative devices and treatments for sleep-disordered breathing, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other chronic diseases for more than 25 years.
Q. Why did ResMed choose Nova Scotia for its growth plans?
A. We chose Nova Scotia because of its experienced workforce and the many new graduates from the area’s universities and colleges. Halifax also offers convenient access to the European market, which is a key area of growth for the company.
Q. What kinds of jobs will be performed out of the Halifax office?
A. The Halifax office is focused on the development of leading-edge software solutions to meet the needs of patients and healthcare providers around the world. Roles include software development, functional analysis, quality assurance, technical support, project management and a number of other roles required to ensure the design, delivery and support of quality software.
Q. What kind of skill sets are required to apply for jobs at ResMed?
A. Skill sets are dependent on role, but would typically include software development in specific programming languages, as well as demonstrated experience in related disciplines.
Q. Will employees receive any specialized training?
A. All ResMed employees receive specialized training and are encouraged to seek additional training in areas that are of interest to them.
