Medical and dental benefits

Benefits are provided to employees through participation in the Province of Nova Scotia Group Health and Dental Plan.

Life insurance

Provided through the Group Life Insurance Plan of the Government of Nova Scotia. Optional and Spouse/Child life insurance is also available.

Pregnancy, parental and adoption leave allowance

A top-up allowance for new parents is provided under the Supplementary Employment Benefit (SEB) Plan (see below).

Pension plan

Invest Nova Scotia employees are members of the Nova Scotia Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP). The PSSP is a registered target benefit pension plan that offers you a lifetime pension benefit when you retire. It is an important part in helping you to be financially secure during your retirement years.

Confidential, professional, and proactive support services for a wide range of personal, family and work-related issues and challenges. The EFAP helps Invest Nova Scotia employees take practical and effective steps to improve their physical and mental health and well-being.

Supplementary Employment Benefit (SEB) Plan

An Invest Nova Scotia employee who applies for and is eligible for E.I. benefits under pregnancy leave, parental leave, or adoption leave shall be paid an allowance in accordance with the SEB Plan.

Invest Nova Scotia maintains coverage for medical, extended health, group life and any other employee benefit plan and continue to pay its share of premium costs for maintaining such coverage during the period of Pregnancy, Parental and Adoption Leave.

Pregnancy leave allowance

Payments made according to the SEB Plan consist of the following:

  • One (1) week of pay at the equivalent of 75% of her weekly pay for the one (1) week waiting period to receive E.I. benefits;
  • For an employee who has served the one (1)-week waiting period, one (1) additional payment in an amount equal to the difference between the weekly EI benefits the employee is eligible to receive and 93% of their weekly pay rate, less any other income received by the employee that would result in a decrease in the employee’s EI benefits;
  • Five (5) weeks of salary top-up at 93% of weekly pay.

Parental and adoption leave allowance

Payments made according to the SEB Plan consist of the following:

  • One (1) week of pay at the equivalent of 75% of his/her weekly pay for the one (1) week waiting period to receive E.I. benefits (if applicable);
  • For an employee who has served the one (1)-week waiting period, one (1) additional payment in an amount equal to the difference between the weekly EI benefits the employee is eligible to receive and 93% of their weekly pay rate, less any other income received by the employee that would result in a decrease in the employee’s EI benefits;
  • Ten (10) weeks of salary top up at 93% of weekly pay.
