Supplementary Employment Benefit Plan

An Invest Nova Scotia employee who applies for and is eligible for E.I. benefits under pregnancy leave, parental leave, or adoption leave shall be paid an allowance in accordance with the Supplementary Employment Benefit (S.E.B).

Invest Nova Scotia will maintain coverage for medical, extended health, group life and any other employee benefit plan and continue to pay its share of premium costs for maintaining such coverage during the period of Pregnancy, Parental and Adoption Leave.

Pregnancy Leave Allowance

Payments made according to the S.E.B. Plan will consist of the following:

  • One (1) week of pay at the equivalent of 75% of her weekly pay for the one (1) week waiting period to receive E.I. benefits;
  • For an employee who has served the one (1)-week waiting period, one (1) additional payment in an amount equal to the difference between the weekly EI benefits the employee is eligible to receive and 93% of their weekly pay rate, less any other income received by the employee that would result in a decrease in the employee’s EI benefits;
  • Five (5) weeks of salary top-up at 93% of weekly pay.

Parental and Adoption Leave Allowance

Payments made according to the S.E.B. Plan will consist of the following:

  • One (1) week of pay at the equivalent of 75% of his/her weekly pay for the one (1) week waiting period to receive E.I. benefits (if applicable);
  • For an employee who has served the one (1)-week waiting period, one (1) additional payment in an amount equal to the difference between the weekly EI benefits the employee is eligible to receive and 93% of their weekly pay rate, less any other income received by the employee that would result in a decrease in the employee’s EI benefits;
  • Ten (10) weeks of salary top up at 93% of weekly pay.
