Sector Overview

What gives Nova Scotia the edge?

It's not just natural resources — it's infrastructure, innovation, and collaboration. The province offers:

  • Deep-water ports and shipping routes for efficient global export.
  • A skilled workforce with expertise in energy, engineering, and ocean tech.
  • Strong research and development capacity, including internationally recognized institutions.
  • Supportive government policies and incentives aligned with global climate goals.

This combination makes Nova Scotia more than just a resource-rich region — it makes it a launchpad for the future of clean energy.

SECTOR SNAPSHOT

Wind West

Wind West

Nova Scotia has been working with Canada as our joint management partner to realize the full economic and environmental potential of the clean energy sector and become home to Canada’s first offshore wind farm.

With the necessary transmission infrastructure, Nova Scotia’s offshore wind can be a foundational piece to securing greater energy security and sovereignty for Canada. Forging ahead on this vision, the Province has proposed the Wind West nation-building project.

Wind West would be an east-west High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission interconnection that can reduce renewable energy supply costs, enhance reliability, enable the increased use of clean energy

Call for Information and Prequalification

Momentum You Can Be Part Of

The Canada–Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator (CNSOER) has launched the Call for Information and Prequalification (NS25-1R) — the next major step toward commercial-scale offshore wind development.

Now is the time for international companies to help shape the supply chain, infrastructure, and technologies that will power a sustainable energy future.

Why Nova Scotia?

Why Nova Scotia? The answer starts offshore. Nova Scotia is home to some of the most consistent and powerful offshore and onshore wind resources in the world — with speeds that rival those of the North Sea, the current gold standard for offshore wind energy.

Whether your business manufactures turbine components, designs subsea systems, provides logistics, or develops intelligent monitoring solutions — Nova Scotia is ready to help you build, innovate, and lead.
